Trade Journal EA: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I install the Trade Journal EA?
Download the .ex5 file from the Trade Journal EA card in My Account → My EAs. In MT5 go to File → Open Data Folder → MQL5 → Experts and paste it in, then right-click Expert Advisors in the Navigator and choose Refresh. There is nothing to compile. Drag it onto any chart and paste your licence key into the Licence key input.
Where is the Risk & Stats Dashboard EA?
It is now the Risk tab of the Trade Journal EA, so you only need one EA. Remove the old dashboard from your chart and use the Trade Journal EA with the key from its card in My Account → My EAs.
The panel says Allow WebRequest.
Go to Tools → Options → Expert Advisors, tick Allow WebRequest for listed URL and add https://elliottwaveinsight.com and https://license.elliottwaveinsight.co.uk exactly as shown. Then remove and re-attach the EA.
The Risk tab says the key is in use on another MT5 account.
Each key covers one MT5 account. Syncing to your journal still works. Contact support and we will move the key to the account you want.
My trades are not showing in the journal.
Check the panel says Connected. The EA syncs every 5 minutes and a few seconds after any trade, or click Sync now. If you see a "3 consecutive failures" popup, check the Experts tab (Ctrl+T) for lines starting [EWI] Sync failed and send them to support.
Can it place or close trades?
No. The Trade Journal EA only reads your account. It is safe to run alongside the Execution Panel, TrendlineTrader or any other EA.
Do I need to tick Allow DLL imports?
No. None of our EAs use DLLs, so leave Allow DLL imports unticked. The only setting the Trade Journal EA needs is Allow WebRequest.
Can I sync my journal without running the EA?
Yes. Open your Trade Journal, click Sync with your investor password, and enter your broker server, account number and investor password. Our sync service then logs in read only and updates your journal every few hours. The investor password cannot place, change or close trades. Use one method per MT5 account, either the EA or the investor password.
Where do I find my investor password?
Your broker sends it with your account details when you open the account. If you no longer have it, set a new one in MT5 under Tools → Options → Server → Change, choosing the investor password. Never enter your main trading password.
Investor password sync says MT5 login failed.
Check the server name is exactly as MT5 shows it under File → Login to Trade Account, and that you entered the investor password, not the main password. Fix the details and connect again, or click Sync Now once you have changed the password.
How do I stop investor password sync?
Click Disconnect in the investor password panel on your Trade Journal. We delete your investor password straight away. Trades already in your journal stay until you clear them. Changing your investor password in MT5 also stops our access.
